Coastal Bend winters are bipolar. One day it’s freezing, and the next it feels like someone lit the sand on fire. We all know how to dress when it’s hot, but when it’s forty-degrees outside and you want a cute beach day, where do you even start?
For men, jeans or linen pants with long johns underneath can go a long way. Skip the shirt and pair the bottoms with an open coat or jacket to keep that “beachy” look without sacrificing warmth. Finish the outfit with your favorite beanie or hat to help retain heat.
Women have a few more options available to them. A pair of nude fleece leggings underneath shorts or a skirt is a great way to stay warm while giving the illusion of bare legs. High-rise shorts can lengthen the leg and create a streamlined silhouette, while A-line skirts gently skim the hips for a flattering effect. For a more conservative look, omit the leggings altogether and reach for your cutest denim pants. Utilizing different styles, you can tailor your look to best suit your body type and comfort.
Almost any choice of bottoms should work with a sweater and puffer vest, but the options don't stop there. Picture a sand-toned bikini top paired with a white, wide-neck, knit sweater and topped with a rust-colored jacket. This not only captures a cute and cozy layered look, but it's also functional for our fluctuating temperatures. Complete the look with weathered brown ankle boots and a wide-brimmed hat to effortlessly blend beachy vibes with warmth. For all my fellow girly girls, I'd like to leave you with a universal tip, if you're in a pinch and all else fails, just steal your boyfriend's jacket.
Winter beach fashion feels like an under appreciated part of living in the Coastal Bend. Whether we realize it or not, the best looks happen when we aren't even trying.
