Corpus Christi Polar Bear Plunge 2026

Updated: Jan 2

Pulling up to Fajitaville, we struggle to find a parking spot. It’s crowded, cars and people spilling out of every corner. Music pours out of the restaurant. We head inside, pick up our bags at registration, and collect the goodies that come with them. Shortly after, the Beach Walk fun run comes to an end, and the runners make their way back to the event.

As noon approaches, people crowd together on the shore. A countdown comes over the speaker, and the plungers chant along with it.

“...one!” Everyone shouts.

Chaos erupts. Water explodes in gleeful splashes. Laughter and a shared sense of excitement radiate through the air.

Once things settle down, people head back to the shore and dry off. Snack platters are placed on the bar, and after a few minutes, they start to announce the prize winners for the top fundraising individual and team.

We find a table off to the side. A voice comes over the speaker, announcing that the prizes are worth over $3,000, and naming the individual.

“Martha Rose!” the announcer says into the mic.

The room applauds, and Martha approaches to accept her prize after raising an impressive $850.

The second winner is announced. “Ladner’s Legion!” With $1,575 collectively raised, they take home the prize for Top Fundraising Team.

This year’s Corpus Christi Polar Bear Plunge exceeded the $20,000 goal, raising a total of $22,222 for the ALS Therapy Development Institute.

Music plays, the room eventually starts to thin, and we leave Fajitaville with a new, New Year’s Day tradition.
